Thirty Turkeys

Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you can see a whole flock of turkeys on the move.

In this photo Steve Gosser found 30 of them at Beaver Run Reservoir in 2010.  This fall I saw 16 at Schenley Park.

If you’re quiet you might also hear them calling or gobbling.  Click here and scroll down to hear an assortment of turkey sounds from purrs to explosive gobbles.

Happy Thanksgiving.

  1. We woke up this morning to see four turkeys feasting in our neighbor’s Bradford callery pear! A strange sight, indeed. Happy Thanksgiving!

  2. At the end of a day hunting up in Armstrong Co back about 20 years ago, a bunch of us were driving around the upper end of Mahoning Creek Lake and at dusk we saw about 50 turkeys fly up to roost in the trees. It was an unforgettable sight.

    Happy Turkey Day, gobble gobble.

  3. We used to see 50-60 turkeys in our backyard on Thanksgiving, before road construction nearby apparently changed their routine. They were so tame that they would run from the woods when I opened the garage door, and wait while I tossed shelled corn from 5 feet away. I miss their antics…

    Happy Thanksgiving!
