How Can I Keep From Singing?

Every morning the air is filled with song.

This time of year a crescendo of birds arrives in the big northward push of migration.  Some of the migrants will stay to nest, others will continue north, but no matter where they’re going, they sing.

Birdsong is an ingenious, safe way to attract mates and establish territory.  The songs tell other birds important information without having to make physical contact.

Songs prevent fighting.  It’s not a bad arrangement and it’s beautiful to listen to.

And so, in early May the birds are compelled to sing.  I feel like joining them…

My life flows on in endless song:
Above earth’s lamentation,
I catch the sweet, tho’ far-off hymn
That hails a new creation.
Through all the tumult and the strife
I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul —
How can I keep from singing?

  1. Yes the singing is wonderful; yesterday I took my husb. for his 2nd day of walking outside for 1/2 hr. & we could not believe the music. You didn’t see many birds but they are busy at nests I suppose but it was just wondrous. You had to stand & listen. Made happy thoughts, happy heart & souls. So just don’t stop & smell the roses but listen to the music!!! Thanks for your wonderful inspiring words to us Kate.
    Happy Sunday.

  2. I enjoy reading Faith’s comments as much as I enjoy reading this blog. Faith, you are wonderfully positive and you always make me smile!

  3. Maybe it’s because the streaming camera was down for a while this morning, but it seems to be way out of sync with the still camera.

  4. Yes, Donna, it is out of sync. I have reported its connection problems to PixController but the fix may have to wait until Monday.

  5. I have been going thru the wildearth.tv site & I get the camera more often than not today because of the problems. I like the eagles in Canada, they are so huge & watching them putting food into those tiny chicks is humerous but they are so patient. It is still so cold up there & the wind is blowing. Brrrrrrrrrrrr.

Thanks Diane for your comment. I enjoy this all so much, sharing & watching & watching & sharing!!!!!!!!!!!! drives me crazy tho, taking care of a healing husband, trying to read a book for the past 3 weeks makes my days go very fast.
