After a big growth spurt the peregrine falcon chick at the Cathedral of Learning is now developing feathers. Here’s a five-day time lapse comparison.

In the first photo on 18 May 2016 above, C1 has grown facial feathers that now define his face.  He stands like a small white Buddha while he waits for his father to feed him — 19 days after hatching.

Below on 23 May 2016, you can see pin feathers emerging at C1’s wing tips and and tail — 24 days after hatching.

C1 is very demanding.  Terzo got an earful yesterday.

  1. Chubby little budda! So glad that Hope has become a very attentive mother. Possibly she knew something about the chicks she killed and fed to c1 that we will never know about. Hoping for a successful fledge for baby!!

  2. Kate,
Was wondering if there is a link to see the other camera that you use for your post. The only one I can find is the National Aviary. With that one, the parents (Hope & Terzo) and chick keep getting out of view. Would very much like to look at the other view when that happens?
    Thanks,
    Veronica

  3. Watching C1 stretching and flapping it’s wings this morning. Such a happy sight to see this year!

  4. Oh my gosh! I am afraid C1 is going to fly away before banding day! He/she is growing so fast. It makes me happy to see this chick doing so well. And I am so happy that Hope and Terzo are working so well together to care for this little one.
