A Long Visit To The Nest

Though she isn’t going to lay eggs until next year, the new female peregrine at the Cathedral of Learning spent a long time at the nestbox on Thursday morning, 17 October 2019.

It’s good to see her laying claim the nest. She arrived on campus on (or before) 4 September 2019, but didn’t explore the nestbox until this week — four minutes on Monday evening, 14 minutes on Thursday morning.

This video of Thursday’s activity is long — 8.5 minutes — but it shows the most interesting part of her visit, captured at 10:10am on 17 Oct 2019. The video will seem to run forever. Pretend you’re watching it “live.”

Two more videos round out the 14 minutes, not including the time she sits on the front perch. Click the links for:

Stay tuned for more news tomorrow.

  1. She seems to be claiming this nest as her own! Is that what this behavior means? Also it appears like she is eating some of the small stones. Do we know why?

  2. I watched all 3 and enjoyed each. What on earth did she think she was going to do with that feather? I saw it floated back into the nest. This all made me smile!!

  3. Where was She Who Will Not Be Named while all of this was going on? Has she abandoned the nest? Or will there be a fight for territory?

    1. Donna, We don’t know where Hope is. She’s been gone for a while. … Long enough that Morela is checking out the nest.

  4. Is Hope GONE? Are they going to have to fight it out? When will the male turn up?
Thanks, Kate! I hate suspense, love spoilers!!!
