Best Crest

Hooded mergansers (Lophodytes cucullatus) are twice named for their crests which they raise and lower at will. “Hooded” refers to the crest, of course. So does the Greek Lophodytes: lophos = crest + dutes = diver.

Females do the crest thing, too.
