A Trickle of Fall Warblers & Fear of Missing Out

24 August 2025

Warbler migration has not heated up yet in the Pittsburgh area but a trickle of fall warblers has been enticing. Sewickley Heights Park is always excellent from late August through September so when we heard that a golden-winged warbler had been seen there last Tuesday, six of us went to find it on Thursday morning. No luck. It was drizzling. We saw hardly any birds.

Yesterday’s news from Sewickley Heights Park was even more tantalizing. Adrian Fenton, Zach Vaughn (see his Instagram photos above) and Steve Gosser saw up to 9 warbler species, though usually only one of each. Best birds were a Canada and a Wilson’s warbler seen by Steve Gosser.

This morning Charity Kheshgi and I are going to try for them. We have an intense Fear of Missing Out (FOMO). We also have hope because BirdCast’s maps and statistics show that migration in and out of Pittsburgh was minimal last night. Maybe those birds will still be there today. Fingers crossed.

If you have Warbler FOMO too, start checking birdcast.info every day for up to the minute and historical fall migration news.
