Yesterday PixCams announced, “The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived! Mom at the Glen Hazel (Hays) bald eagles nest laid her first egg of the season around 2:58 PM this afternoon!”
Watch for one or two more eggs in the days ahead and stay tuned for the first pip on this egg about 35 days from now. For more information bald eagles see: Haliaeetus leucocephalus.

Hi Kate! Long time reader and enjoyer of your blog, though I don’t comment often. I just saw a bald eagle and I don’t know who else to tell or how to report it. Can you report on eBird without having a photo? It was an adult sitting on a light post on the 40th St Bridge. Could it be one of our resident eagles? The bridge seems a little far from either the Glen Hazel or Irvin nest site…
Sophia, yes you can report on eBird without a photo. The eagle you saw might be one of the couple who nests on the north side of the Allegheny River between 40th Street and Hampton-Shaler Waterworks.
