The second week of May is always wonderful for warblers, especially along Lake Erie’s southern shore at Magee Marsh, Ohio and Presque Isle, Pennsylvania. Shown above are just a few warbler highlights from Presque Isle this week.
- Bay-breasted warbler (Setophaga castanea)
- Cape May warbler (Setophaga tigrina)
- Common yellowthroat (Geothlypis trichas)
- Chestnut-sided warbler (Setophaga pensylvanica)
- Magnolia warbler (Setophaga magnolia)
- Nashville warbler (Leiothlypis ruficapilla): Notice the red spot in top of his head. He shows those feathers when he’s excited.
- Northern parula (Setophaga americana)
Also at Presque Isle, Charity Kheshgi saw a large family of common mergansers. 13 ducklings! So cute. I’m sorry I missed it.

When they swam the first few were able to climb on her back.
