This morning the motion detection photos from the Cathedral of Learning showed a juvenile peregrine near the snapshot camera. Who is this?

Day-In-A-Minute video reveals it’s “Yellow.” She spent at least half the day loafing at the nest and when her parent(s) came near she begged loudly. They didn’t feed her. Instead they avoided the nest until she was gone. Here’s the 8:30am to 5:00pm timelapse.

In the 10 o’clock hour Yellow slept, begged angrily, and played with desiccated bits of bone and feathers left over from last month’s meals. She’s acting half her age (she was 59 days old on 23 June. 30 days is pre-fledge).

Yellow is staying very close to home. Granted, she had a traumatic experience on her first flight away from the Cathedral of Learning when she was attacked by four fish crows, but she can’t be a real peregrine if she lets those fears stop her.

“I don’t want to grow up!”

Her parents, Carla and Ecco, know she has to, so they’re acting accordingly.
